The Body in the Brain: A Somatic Journey into Transforming Trauma
For the last 150 years of psychological research the prevailing belief has been that our thinking brain rules supreme. Recently, the work of Antonio Demasio, Lisa Feldman Barrett, Daniel Kahneman, Jakk Panksepp and others has painted a very different picture of how the body is accurately mapped in the brain and feelings and emotions fire before thoughts can be formed. This is the essence of embodiment and why the application of somatic tools is important when used in combination with cognitive approaches for the treatment of trauma, anxiety, depression and other mental health challenges.
Splash into the waters of affective neuroscience by exploring how important an understanding of embodiment (posture, movement and emotions) is to helping clients “recode” their traumatic experiences and change behaviour.
Learn the 7 Primary Emotional Brain Networks (7PEBN) that form the core of our Emotional Intelligence and the brain’s learning experience. Apply Josh’s “Somatic Recoding” process with exercises to help clients explore safe movements that can transform their limiting beliefs and trauma memories.
Help clients get free of past blockages and boost their Emotional Intelligence by understanding how body posture and barriers to movement are important clues to decoding underlying behaviour.
